Where Nature Nurtures Wine: The Heart of Gorghi Tondi
“Gorghi Tondi would never have been born without the love for nature of Dora, our great-grandmother.” A century ago Dora began the work that today Annamaria and Clara Sala, her descendants, continue within the nature reserve of Lake Preola and Gorghi Tondi in South-West Sicily. This wetland full of natural lakes surrounded by marsh and Mediterranean scrub provides a haven for vast numbers of species of wild birds, wild olive and oak trees, and mastic shrubs. Within this oasis, Gorghi Tondi farm organically with minimal impact on the environment. The traditional Sicilian Baglio (farmstead) containing the winery lies between this reserve and the Mediterranean Sea. Mainly indigenous Sicilian varieties are planted, and Grillo is the star of the show – Grillodoro is Sicily’s only botrytised sweet wine, a unique jewel.

Mineral, with fresh citrus notes, frangipani, ginger, stone fruits, and a touch of vanilla, on the palate it is harmonious and round, with a delicate note of marzipan and a slight saline finish that makes it ideal with smoked fish dishes, shellfish, and excellent with white pork sauce or rabbit cacciatore.

Grillodoro Sicilia DOC
Made from 30+ year-old, organically farmed Grillo vines in Mazara del Vallo, this rare noble rot sweet wine is aged in oak, and has a golden colour with floral, honeyed, and tropical fruit notes. Pairs well with almond pastries, tiramisu, ricotta desserts, and blue cheeses.
