Tenuta l’Impostino lies in Montecucco in the Maremma in Southern Tuscany, just below Montalcino and close to the Tyrrhenian Sea as well as Monte Amiata. In the Middle Ages, the wines of Montecucco were as well known as the rest of Tuscany, but the area did not experience the same economic prosperity as those further north. ‘Imposto’ is the local name for an inn where travellers could rest, buy food, and change horses, and Impostino was the name given to a second inn on a busy road between Siena and Grosseto. Imposto and Impostino! The wines here are faithful expressions of Tuscany’s typical grape varieties, with spice, fruit, and lovely ripeness.
Wines from Tenuta l’Impostino:
'Ballo Angelico' Toscana IGP
This organic Vermentino tastes of yellow peach, melon, peppermint, and bay leaves, offering a dry, full-bodied palate with a pleasant mineral note and herbal finish, making it an ideal pairing for traditional bruschetta, light pasta, vegetable-based dishes, and especially white fish carpaccio and raw shellfish.
'Sassorosa' Toscana IGP
A Tuscan Rosato with a pale pink colour and fresh perfume of blackcurrants and raspberries, mineral and well-balanced on the palate with a long-lasting finish, making it a delightful aperitif and an excellent match for typical Tuscan antipasti, soups, first courses, fish, seafood, smoked salmon, beef tartare, and fried mushrooms.
'Ottava Rima' Maremma Toscana DOC
This full-bodied Sangiovese, with plum, eucalyptus, tobacco, and earthy flavours, is balanced by good acidity, ripe tannin and a long finish, pairing well with cold cuts, semi-hard cheese, spicy dishes, and roasted meats like rabbit cacciatore, Tuscan chicken stew, and lamb chops.
