Rento – Grand Tradition, Old Vines, Exceptional Terroir
Formerly owned by the Catholic Jesuits, Carlos Moro’s ancestors acquired the Renacimiento bodega along with prime vineyard sites in Ribera del Duero over two hundred years ago. Dating from the 16th century, the now family home for Carlos and his family was originally built by the Marquis of Olivares and today borders the Vega Sicilia estate at the heart of Ribera’s ‘Golden Mile’ of top producers. Rento is an old Castilian word that refers to the rent paid to the Marquis and later the Jesuits in exchange for permission to cultivate the vineyards. Just 2.6ha of very old vines in the Picon de Zurita vineyard are farmed entirely without chemical use, next to the Duero river at an altitude of 725m. Aged for 18 months in 50 carefully selected new French oak barrels from top coopers, it is a benchmark wine from one of Spain’s top fine wine regions.
