Cantine Maligni
Passion, commitment, and the indomitable spirit of Abruzzo
Maligni is a family name that has been associated with wine production for over four generations. The name is said to have originated from a dispute between the old ‘Pater Familias,’ Pasquale Tomei, and a local priest.
Fabio Tomei, the fifth-generation wine maker, runs Maligni Winery in Villa Reale, a small village overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the middle of the Abruzzo region.
The winery sits on a sixteen-hectare vineyard, where mainly Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Pecorino, Passerina, and Cococciola grapes are grown. The area has a long history of viticulture dating back to the 15th century.
The vineyards are organic, and the winery operates with an artisanal approach, from the manual harvesting to the manual bottling, all done by the family. When one buys a bottle of Maligni wine, they are taking home passion, commitment, and the indomitable spirit of Abruzzo.
