Dehesa de Luna: Where Nature and Winemaking Thrive in Harmony

Dehesa de Luna’s estate can be found in the southern reaches of La Mancha, in the municipality of Albacete, south west of Valencia. The winery is surrounded by approximately 3000ha of natural reserve land teeming with protected plant and animal species. The warm sunny and dry climate here is ideal for practicing sustainable viticulture, and the estate secured organic certification for the 64ha of vineyard soon after its foundation in 2012.

The high heat of the summers is mitigated through a clever system of ‘shade viticulture’, involving training systems like the pergola and bush vines to retain humidity and decrease sun exposure of the grape bunches. Irrigation water is minimised by leaving plant cover between the rows, and pruning waste is reused for soil nutrition. The great wines crafted as a result of their hard work are testament that good value and healthy annual production need not come at the expense of sustainable use of the land and organic viticulture.
